Film Studies - A Level at Stoke Damerel Community College

Course description

Do you have an interest in studying the world and its people through film? Would you enjoy the creative aspects and production? Would you like to develop your skills in journalism, screenwriting, video production and written analysis? Would you like to widen your knowledge of the films you already watch, experience new, exciting and challenging cinema, become aware of film history and the issues surrounding cinematic production? If your answer is ‘yes’ to any of the above then this could be the course for you. Film Studies is similar in content and context to English and has the advantage of building literacy and strengthening analytical skills. No previous experience of film studies is necessary.

Entry requirements

For this pathway you will need to achieve Grades 5-9 in English and Mathematics
with three other subjects at Grades A*-C. You will need to achieve at least a Grade
B/6 in the subjects that you wish to study.

Future opportunities

You can progress to a degree in film and media studies. Film Studies A Level leads to careers in journalism, advertising and marketing, film, video and music production work, videogame production, multi-media authoring and graphic design.
