Bricklaying Study Programme Level 2 at Skillsbuild

Course description

This programme is aimed at those who already have some experience either working in Construction, or already hold a Entry Level/Level 1 Basic Construction qualification and now want to pursue a career in Brickwork. The course is split into 3 chunks:

*Engagement and skills building activities.

*Trade Specific Level 1 Certificate in Brickwork

*Trade Specific Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork

Throughout the programme you will also be expected to develop your skills in English and Maths which will be made as relevant to construction as possible.

Times of attendance

Two and a half days per week for two years.


Course content

Practical tasks will include constructing half brick walling, return corners, cavity walls in brickwork/blockwork, one brick walling, thin joint masonry, masonry cladding and attached and isolated piers.


Entry requirements

You will be invited to a short interview where we can find out more about you and ensure this is the right programme for you. You should have an Entry Level or Level 1 qualification in basic construction or be able to demonstrate previous work experience in this area.



Work will be assessed through portfolio building and observation of practical tasks as well as end of qualification knowledge tests. Functional Skills will be assessed through end tests.


Financial information

You may be eligible to for a Bursary to support you with costs whilst on programme. Skillsbuild will also reimburse your travel to and from the centre each day to the value of 100% where a half fare pass is in place, or 50% if not.

Additionally Skillsbuild can provide meal vouchers where learners are eligible for free school meals.

Future opportunities

Young people can progress onto employment within the construction industry or move into a Apprenticeship within Bricklaying.

    • Whitwood Training Centre is our newest centre, only opening in September 2014. This centre is specifically designed for Brickwork and Joinery courses from Level 1 to Level 2.

      Its open plan layout gives it a spacious, relaxed feel. The centre is kitted out with all the hand tools, machines and equipment you will need to qualify as a Joiner or Bricklayer.

      We can accomodate up to 30 learners at this centre, therefore places are limited.
