Religious Studies (Philosophy & Ethics) AS/A Level 3 at The John Wallis Church of England Academy
A one year course normally taken in Year 12. The course covers Philosophy and Ethics. Students take two written papers. Topics covered include the Existence of God, the Problem of Evil and Suffering, Miracles, Moral Decision Making, Sexual Morality and the ethics of War and Peace.
This is a two year course in which students must complete the AS course in Year 12 followed by two further units. Students take two further written papers. Topics covered include Belief about Life after Death, Crime and Punishment and the implications of Belief.
C grade or above at Religious Education.
Religious Studies helps to develop tolerance and understanding of humanity.There are many career options available for students with this qualification including teaching, nursing, social work, the police, public relations, media etc.You could take this course with other advanced level courses as a general preparation for a higher education course or as a foundation for studying Theology or Religious Studies at Higher education. With further training, you could go into a job related to Religious issues such as a Social Worker, Priest, Counsellor or Teacher. As with the other humanities, Religion is a good foundation for entering employment as it helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in sectors where people are the main focus.
