Advanced Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care at SBC Training

Course description

This course is for social care workers who are currently or about to commence working within adult social care and who have or will have responsibility to make decisions.  The Apprenticeship is a flexible qualification with a choice of pathways to follow suitable for all fields of Health and Social Care.  The three pathways are Dementia, Learning Disabilities and Generic.  It will develop further knowledge and skills to enable them to devise and deliver quality care.

Course content

The Advanced Apprenticeship includes the following qualifications which will need to be completed in order to gain framework certification:

Knowledge based – Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care.  This provides in depth supporting knowledge for the Diploma in Health and Social care through the completion of assignments.

Competence based – Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.  This ensures that knowledge can be put into practice through the chosen pathway.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities Level 2 Awards.  This ensures apprentices feel confident with their rights and responsibilities in a working environment.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. This component supports the learner to try different ways to tackle a problem, working with others to find imaginative solutions and outcomes that are of value.

Functional Skills - Maths and English Level 2. This is integrated within the programme and is completed by producing a portfolio and sitting a test and gives the apprentice confidence in applying number and communication to their daily work.

Entry requirements

No previous experience is required to undertake this course, but there must be a clear plan to develop to the required level in the job role.  The Apprenticeship meets the requirements of the Care Quality Commission.

Future opportunities

Typical progression would be to a Higher Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care Level 5, possibly gaining a nursing qualification, a Diploma in Leadership and management in Health and Social Care level 5, a Foundation Degree in Social Care, or Team Leading or a Management qualification.  This will be discussed at the start of the programme and re-visited throughout the length of the programme.

Further information

Following enrolment, learners engage in a blended programme of training and support that will include attendance at group training sessions, on a day release basis, self-directed learning and a mixture of on-line and face to face support from their personal tutor.  It would be helpful but not essential if apprentices have access to a computer and the internet.
