Chemistry AS Level at Ashfield School

Course description

Chemistry is everywhere in the world around you! It's in the food you eat, clothes you wear, water you drink, medicines, air, cleaners... you name it. Chemistry sometimes is called the "central science" because it connects to other sciences, such as biology, physics, geology and environmental science.

  • Introduction to organic chemistry

Entry requirements

Minimum of a 7 and 6 in GCSE Science (or included in triple science grades), plus a 6 in GCSE Mathematics and a 6 in GCSE English.

Assessment

AS Chemistry – has 2 x 1hr30 min exams (50% each) plus 6 required practical's.

Future opportunities

Career prospects for Chemistry graduates are very good. Jobs directly related to a Chemistry degree include Analytical Chemist, Chemical Engineer, Healthcare Scientist, Forensic Scientist, Research Scientist and Toxicologist. In addition, and A Level in Chemistry is needed for entry to Medicine and Veterinary Medicine degree courses.
