Chemistry at Hele's School

Course description

This course offers an exciting and varied 2 years of study for those who would enjoy extending their knowledge of chemistry beyond GCSE.

We will look at the whole range of modern chemistry

* Physical Chemistry: The study of why, how far and how fast chemical reactions happen;
* Organic Chemistry: The chemistry of carbon compounds and their role in living organisms;
* Inorganic Chemistry: The chemistry of all the elements;
* Spectroscopy: The use of modern technology to work out the structure of compounds, including a visit to the University to gain ‘hands-on’ experience.

The emphasis will be on investigation, practical applications and the role of chemistry in society.

Entry requirements

At least 5 A*-C including English and Maths.

A minimum of grade B in GCSE Chemistry or the Chemistry component of GCSE Additional Science is essential. Grade B in GCSE English and Mathematics is preferred.
