Urdu A Level at Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy
You will concentrate on developing the following four skills further: 1. Listening - listen to and demonstrate an understanding of the spoken word either directly in class or through the use of tapes. 2. Speaking - speak in the language, responding orally to questions asked and taking part in a variety of role-play situations. 3. Reading - read and show understanding of the language in a number of ways. 4. Writing - write in response to a variety of stimuli, including form filling and letter writing.
A grade ‘D’ at AS-level in this subject is required to progress from the AS-level to the A-level. This A Level is recognised for university entry, as well as for the Institute of Linguists Bilingual Certificate for Translation and Interpretation.
Language skills open up many interesting career opportunities. Traditionally, language specialists have worked as translators, interpreters and teachers, but there are many other fields in which their skills are highly valued. These include business (eg export sales, bilingual PA), journalism, travel and transport (eg tour guide, air cabin crew, freight forwarder), civil service.
