What is the course about?

This course aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of how different factors combine in varying ways to influence the quality of performance in a variety of physical activities and how performance can be improved through practice, analysis and evaluation.

Unit 1 Applied Anatomy and Exercise Physiology.
Unit 2 Biomechanical Movement
Unit 3 Skill Acquisition
Unit 4 Sport Psychology
Unit 5 Sport and Society
Unit 6 The role of Technology in Physical Activity and Sport
Unit 7 Practical development of chosen activity with detailed self/performer analysis

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B in GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (Triple Science only), plus B in GCSE English and Mathematics.


How is the course assessed?
Paper 1 35% of total marks – 2 hour written exam
Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition, Sport and Society
Paper 2 35% of total marks – 2 hour written exam
Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics, Sport Psychology, Sport and Society and Technology in Sport.
