Business Studies at Wrenn Academy

Course content

Business organisations are a necessary part of our lives and we come into contact with them daily. On this course our aim is for you to develop an understanding of how they are structured and organised. Through a variety of ways you will learn about how they market a product or service; how they recruit (or dismiss) staff; what membership of a trade union involves and how the government influences decisions that firms make. What happens to all the profits? Who gets them? There are many opportunities on the course for activities to be based on `real-life` business problems, and you will develop skills to enable you to work as a member of a team. Our aim is to get you to think about the effect decisions can have on everyone in the workplace. At times you will be wearing your manager’s hat – on other occasions your worker’s hat. The course leads to a G.C.S.E. in Business Studies. There are two levels of assessment - foundation or higher and all students must complete a piece of coursework worth 25% of the final marks. The coursework is based on marketing and you will have the opportunity to evaluate the marketing strategy of a product / service of your own choice. To gain the full benefits of this course, you will need an enquiring mind and be able to see all sides of a problem before arriving at a solution. Business Studies is not just for those people who want to go into Management or Accountancy for example, it is a subject which is useful, and of interest, to anyone going into any field whatsoever. It touches on and reflects all areas of industry whether scientific, artistic or technical.
