Plumbing Studies Introductory Diploma at Derby College

Course description

This one-year introductory course is for people thinking of a career in building services, specialising in plumbing.  

As well as plumbing know-how, learners will develop their skills in maths and English, which will support their main programme of study, help their future progression and enhance their life skills.

Course content

This qualification covers a range of basic tasks and underpinning knowledge involved in plumbing.

You will complete the following core units:

  • Introduction to the Building Services Engineering Sector
  • Functional Maths and English

Entry requirements

You will undertake an aptitude test and interview.  You should have achieved GCSE Maths and English at grade D or above.

Assessment

You will be assessed on the practical skills and knowledge you gain by completing various practical tasks and assessments.  Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Future opportunities

This course allows learners to progress to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies
  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Installing and Maintaining Domestic Heating Systems
