Animal Care Diploma Level 2 at Lincoln College

Course description

If you want to pursue a career in the animal industry, then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge in animal care and giving you experience required to further develop your understanding. Work experience is an important part of this course as it prepares you for employment within the industry. As part of your course, you will be expected to undertake work experience housed at the centre you are based at – this may include some weekend work.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress into further animal-related study or into employment within the sector.
During this course you will explore both theoretical and practical subjects and you will study the following topics: Animal Health and Well-being; Feeding and Watering Animals; Animal Science; Animal Housing; Grooming; Behaviour; Contribute to the Nursing of Animals and Caring for Farm Livestock.


Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs to include two from: English; Mathematics and Science (minimum grade D). You will be required to attend an interview and taster day on ‘the yard’ and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) along with evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation with animals and the animal industry; and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.


Assessment is a combination of coursework and practical assessments.
