Hair and Beauty Level 2 Diploma in Hair Dressing at Kirkby College

Course description

Level 2 VRQ Hairdressing qualifies you to go into the industry after 1 year. The course will be run over two days a week in our brand new salon, which is run on a commercial basis. Students engage in a one day a week placement in a salon of their choice to enable skills to develop in a more natural and professional environment.

If you are thinking of a career in hairdressing and are wanting to learn and develop the skills you would need then this is the course for you, you could also continue on to pursue this at level 3 here at Kirkby College.

Course content

  • Health and safety,
  • Working in the industry,
  • Consultation,
  • Shampoo/condition,
  • Styling woman’s hair,
  • Promoting products/services,
  • Cutting and colouring.

All students have online multiple choice exams and 6 units have practical assessments which are carried out in the salon.

Also you are expected to have a placement in a salon one day a week organised by yourself.

Future opportunities

Many students who take VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing go on to either get an apprentice in a Hair Salon or continue on here at Kirkby college to complete the Level 3 VRQ which goes into much greater detail and enables students to continue to develop their skills further to include cutting and colour techniques.
