Women's & Men's Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma at Heysham High School Sports College

Course description

This course will give you the qualification you need to work in the employment area you have chosen and will also provide you with a good basis to go on to a more advanced, work related qualification.

The course is made up of 10 units - 6 core units and 4 specialist units.  The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in more depth.  All students take the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Client consultation
  • Shampoo and condition hair
  • Promote products and services to clients in the salon
  • Cut women’s hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Cut men’s hair
  • Create an image based on a theme
  • Styling men’s hair

Entry requirements

A good level of literacy is ideal to be able to complete the coursework involved in this subject, together with a desire to do well and remain motivated.  Good attendance and the ability to work with external clients are essential.  Places are limited and therefore assessments will be carried out to judge the student’s ability.

Future opportunities

On completion of the Level 3, students will be in a position to progress into employment within the hairdressing industry, including high street salons, TV and theatre,  Work/travel opportunities also exist on cruise liners or in hotels worldwide.
