Health & Social Care Applied AS/A2 Level at Belfairs Academy

Course description

Students develop a broad understanding of the health, social care and early years sectors, as well as skills and technical knowledge in this area. In addition they will gain an awareness of particular groups and their needs by focussing on health, early years, care of older people or individuals with specific needs.

This course can be taken either as a single (equivalent to 1 A Level) or double award (equivalent to 2 A Levels). The double award builds on the knowledge and understanding from the single award. You must have a genuine interest and enthusiasm to work with people of all ages ranging from preschool children to older people. This course requires you to apply knowledge and understanding from the ‘real’ world of health and social care to your work in order to achieve the higher grades.

Entry requirements

Merit in Health & Social Care.

Assessment

Single Award: AS and A2 - 3 units each year

4 units are portfolio units completed within the lesson time and 2 units are external examination taken in the January.

Double Award: An additional 3 units each year.

Future opportunities

The A level in Health and Social enables students to progress to degree courses in areas such as nursing, teaching, social work, physiotherapy and midwifery. You could also go on into relevant employment within the health and social care services as mentioned above.
