Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (QCF) at Doncaster, Rotherham & District Motor Trades GTA Ltd (based at Doncaster & Sheffield)

Course description

The start of a workbased motor vehicle Apprenticeship career that can lead to a level 3 qualification and employment as a Light Vehicle Technician for applicants who successfully complete the course.

Course content

Practical and theory aspects of vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair. Learning will be by placement in a local garage and day release at our Training Centre.

Health and safety awareness in a motor vehicle repair workshop.

Motor vehicle construction and layout of major vehicle systems and components.

Routine maintenance of vehicles.

Inspection and identification of basic vehicle faults.

Use of measuring instruments required in vehicle maintenance.

Removal and refitting of components.

Working with groups and as an individual.

Responsibility for personal actions taken.

Entry requirements

Applicants should expect to obtain GCSEs at grade D or above in English, Mathamatics and a Science. But more importantly they must want to pursue a career in the vehicle repair industry.

Additional support is given to learners who do not have the required GCSE results to enable them to progress their qualification.

Assessment

Completion of a portfolio of evidence of vehicles repaired in the workplace.

On-line web based multi-choice assessment questions.

Financial information

For apprentices aged 16 to 25 costs may be met by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).

Future opportunities

Progression onto a level 3 motor vehicle apprenticeship programme that may lead to full time employment and Vehicle Technician status.

Further information

The course is an apprenticeship based on 4 days per week in a motor vehicle repair company and 1 day per week attendance at our Training Centre.

The full qualification consists of the NVQ certification that is about proving your competence in industry, a Technical Certificate that checks your knowledge and Key Skills communication, application of number and ICT all at level 1.
