Course description

Business Studies is a course that helps students gain a better understanding of the real world. Students will understand how businesses are run, the problems that they experience and how these problems can be lessened. This will help them in the world of work as well as prepare them for further study in fields such as finance or human resources.

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE Business Studies (if taken at GCSE level) and Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and Grade 4 in GCSE English Language.

Future opportunities

The first year is all about understanding types of businesses and the key functional areas within a business: marketing, operations, finance and human resources.

The second year looks more at overall business strategy e.g. should a firm start selling to China? Should a firm take over another? It builds upon the first year knowledge to consider wider business issues like ethics and globalisation.

Learning takes place through a variety of approaches, including; teacher led discussion, debates, classroom activities and research tasks.
