English Language and Literature A Level at Bedford Academy

Course description

English at A Level is an exploration into the English and Continental cannon. CLose scrutiny of landmark authos and poets, who have over time shaped the language that we speak freely today, will develop your analytical and creative skills. Over the two year courses, your voice will develop as a critique and commentator of classic and contemporary English LIterature while your investigative and forensic skills will be enhanced through the English Language components.

Course content

You will learn about how and why views and perspectives of different kinds are shaped and used in narratives. You will learn how language choices help to shape the representations of different worlds and perspectives in fiction and poetry. You will explore the imagined worlds of fiction and poetry which are characterised by uindusal narratives, narrators and events. You will analyse the language choices made by writers in order to study their point of view, characteriusation, presentation of time and space and the narrative structure.

Assessment

Students will complet a coursework portfolio worth 20% of the final grade. Final exams will be taken at the end of the course.

Future opportunities

A Level English is highly valued by Universities and employers. It can lead directly to degree courses such as law, journalism, politics and history and help prepare you for careers in the media industries or business.
