Vehicle Technology BTEC First Diploma Level 2 at Teignmouth Community School
The BTEC First Diploma in Vehicle Technology is designed for people who are interested in working with motor vehicles as a career pathway. You will develop the skills and understanding to either enter employment or move on to further vocational education and training. The course will also show you how to repair your own car and keep it in a safe and roadworthy condition. It is equivalent to four GCSEs at C to A* level dependant on achieving Pass, Merit or Distinction grades
The core units of the diploma are: Essential working practices in vehicle technology, Vehicle electrical and electronic principles and Engineering skills for vehicle repair. The remainder of the course comprises: Vehicle Engine Principles and Operation, Vehicle Design and Operation of Vehicle Systems, Routine Vehicle Maintenance Techniques, Operation and Repair of Vehicle Braking Systems, Inspection and Replacement of Vehicle Exhaust Systems and Non-Structural Vehicle Body Repair. You may have the opportunity to attend at least one day a week of work experience in a suitably related business which the school will help arrange for you.
You must be prepared to work very hard! The course covers a huge amount in only one year and there is a lot of written and practical work to complete. This course is also ideally suited to students who have already completed the BTEC Extended Certificate and wish to extend their knowledge and qualification up to diploma level, in this case only the units not covered previously will be required.
This course can help in being accepted for a modern apprenticeship in any of the vehicle repair trades or may be a stepping stone to a higher level qualification. The generic skills you learn will prove useful if you are considering any mechanical or engineering trades.
