Football Academy - VTCT Diploma in Sports Studies - Level 2 at Herne Bay High School

Course description

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Sports Studies (QCF) is a vocational qualification that will support progression towards Level 3 qualifications. This qualification provides the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to pursue a career in sport and related disciplines. This qualification covers the core topic areas of sport including: anatomy and physiology, performance psychology, planning and leading activities and business skills.

Learners have the opportunity to select a number of optional units which include: fitness testing and training, effects of exercise on the body systems, nutrition for sports performance, managing a sports career, sports injuries, sport and leisure facility operations, technical skills and tactical awareness and planning and running a sports event.

Entry requirements

1 Year Course – Normally 5 GCSEs grades in the range of 9-2 (Including Maths and English at grade 3 or above). Although not essential, applicants are expected to be playing at a good level of competitive football or demonstrate the ability to do so. Trials are part of the application process. Successful candidates are required to purchase Training Kit to be worn as uniform.

21st February 2019, 10-12 at Margate FC

11th April 2019, 10-12 at Margate FC

Coursework and Examination

Anatomy & Physiology -Develop your knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology for sport.

Sports Psychology - Develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for the psychological demands of a selected sport.

Planning & Leading Sports Activities - Develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for successful planning and leading of sports activity sessions and events.

Business Skills in Sport - Develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to support an effective sport and leisure business operation.

Sports Nutrition - Develop your knowledge and understanding of the nutritional requirements needed for specific sports to maximise and enhance performance.

Planning & Running Sports Events - Develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to plan, contribute to the organisation of, and review the success of a chosen sporting event.

Financial information

There may be costs for trips or visits.  The Football Kit will also incurr a cost.

Future opportunities

The course may provide a pathway direct to level 3 when attaining a grade of Merit or above. It will be beneficial to those intending to pursue any health, fitness or sports-related vocation such as recreation management, sports development, coaching or personal training.

Further information

This is a one year course. Please note there is no automatic pathway to HBHS Level 3 courses upon completion of the Level 2 and we highly encourage students to make their applications for their onward destination by December.
