Travel & Tourism Level 3 at Sir John Gleed School

Course description

So you think you like the idea of working as a travel agent? Working in a sunny or snowy country as a rep or tour guide? Well a good basis for this is Travel and Tourism. It will give you all of the basic knowledge you will need to go onto University or straight into working in the industry. Work experience will be organised for a two week block placement within the Travel and Tourism Industry. The residential study visit will take place with the maximum amount of input from you, the students. This will give you the opportunity to get hands on and practical experience within the industry. Think how much Travel and Tourism has changed since you were a child? Would you like to be part of its future? Cabin Crew has also been introduced as a stand alone qualification alongside this course. As part of the course some of the assessment will be carried out at an airport where practical hands on experience will be gained, as well as in our own aeroplane section. Upon completion you will know the basics in cabin crew, such as how to carry out pre flight, during flight and post flight duties. You will also learn how to deal with different emergency situations and how to make passenger announcements. So you think you have what it takes??? Come and join is at Airline 16!

Mandatory (core) units:

  • The Business of Travel and Tourism
  • The UK as a Destination
  • Customer Service in Travel &Tourism

Specialist units may include:

  • Preparing for Employment in the Travel & Tourism Industry
  • Long-haul Travel Destinations
  • Work Experience in the Travel and Tourism Industry

At least 5 GCSE’s at grade A* - C, preferably including English

Future opportunities

Progression routes:

To work

On successful completion of a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Travel and Tourism, a learner can progress to or within Employment in many aspect of the travel industry.

To study

On completion of the course a learner may decide to continue their study at a higher level at University. They also have the option of continuing study with another qualification eg, apprenticeships
