City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Basic Construction Skills

Course content

Based in a dedicated construction teaching centre in Witney, this Level 1 Diploma is a practical course which will provide you with an excellent introduction to the occupational areas within the construction industry. The qualification also promotes the development of wider health and safety skills, emphasising the importance of protective equipment, training, risk assessment and safe working practices. You will be trained in the following trades including; bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating and plumbing. As part of the course you will also be expected to undertake a variety of other qualifications that give you the broader skills you need during and after the course. You will have the opportunity to gain Awards in Employability and Personal Development, Health and Safety, English, and Maths. To gain the City & Guilds Level 1 qualification candidates must complete practical assignments for each unit and produce a portfolio of evidence.

Entry requirements

If you are applying for this course you will be invited for an interview and practical session assessment. A minimum of two GCSEs at grade D are required and the ability to be successful on this course. This decision will be made after the interview and practical assessment sesion.

The fees shown below are those charged in 2015/16 and may be subject to increase for 2016/17. For some courses clothing, equipment and registration fees may apply and will be payable to external companies. Only trips necessary to the successful completion of your course (compulsory trips) will be listed below, other trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study, these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course.
