Food Technology AS A2 at Northampton School for Girls

Course description

Food Technology encourages the development of creativity, innovation and the skills to work independently. There will be ample opportunity to design, make, test, develop and evaluate quality food products. You will be expected to analyse new product development opportunities and identify challenging projects, at the same time as developing a sound understanding of food science and industrial production processes.

Course content

What you will do·        You will learn about different food products and how they are designed to meet people’s needs.·        You will design, develop and make a new food product.The theory covers ingredients knowledge, food science, manufacturing processes, health & safety, nutrition.

Entry requirements

Your qualifications should include a minimum of a grade C in Food Technology GCSE. The skills you develop on your GCSE coursework will help you make the transition to the AS/A Level. As 40% of your AS/A Level is based on practical coursework you will need to be prepared to bring in a range of ingredients in order to prepare a variety of products.

Assessment

Designing 60%, Making 40%, Case study, coursework, terminal examination.
