Food Technology A Level at The Wensleydale School & Sixth Form

Course description

AS Level
You will complete a design and make a project using a real client. You will also be expected to study a range of theory topics including materials and components, design in a human context and processes and manufacture (these will provide the basis of the knowledge required for the AS exam).
You will also learn about the food industry world around you, and how everything has been created with a purpose, function and user in mind, even the simplest of products.

A2 Level
You will undertake one major project and will be expected to work closely with a real client as well as applying the knowledge and skills you have gained throughout your Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 studies in Food Technology. In addition to this you will carry out in depth study in to the theory topics covered in Year 12, learning how to apply these to ‘real life’ scenarios in the Food industry.

Assessment

In Year 12 you will be assessed as follows:
- FOOD 1 – Materials, Components and Application exam, 2 hours long and accounts for 50% of AS grade and 25% of A2 grade
- FOOD 2 – Learning through Designing and Making portfolio working with the Jolly Farmers Gastro pub includes practical and folder work; all coursework. This accounts for 50% of the AS grade and 25% of the A2 grade

In Year 13 you will be assessed as follows:
- FOOD 3 – Design and Manufacture exam, 2 hours long and accounts for 25% of A2 grade
- FOOD 4 – Design and Making Practice includes practical project and folder work; all coursework. This accounts for 25% of A2 grade
