Spanish AS Level at Ashfield School

Course description

“It pays to learn a language”

A level Spanish will appeal to students looking to broaden their existing knowledge of languages, bringing out their best and helping them on their journey to further studies and the world of work. But it is much more than that! Learning a language is an insight into culture, behaviour, customs and festivals, a voyage of discovery and a breaking down of barriers. It also develops key skills which nearly every employer looks for such as verbal and written communication, analysing, independent research skills, predicting, evaluating and organising. It really is a small world when you can speak another language!

Course content

Core Content:

1. Social issues and trends

2. Artistic culture

 3. Grammar

4. Works: Literary texts and films

Entry requirements

B-grade or higher in GCSE Spanish.

AS-Level assessments focus on the content covered in the first year only. As such, assessments are slightly shorter as they cover less subject content.

Future opportunities

Career prospects are excellent, with the possibility of continuing your Spanish studies at University either as a full Spanish degree or combining it with a wide range of other subjects such as Law, Engineering, Finance, IT, Business and Travel and Tourism to name a few. Graduates with Spanish are less likely to be unemployed than almost all other degree graduates. Furthermore, according to certain sources, language graduates can also expect to earn about 10% more than non-linguists in a similar job. It really does pay to learn a language!
