Sport at Washwood Heath Academy

Course description

The BTEC Sport Level 3 course looks at all aspects of sports fromthe sports performer, the anatomy and physiology of the human,sports nutrition and training, through to learning how to teach others. You will be required to perform practically and theoreticallythroughout the course and use your knowledge and understanding ofsport and its impact and influence on modern society.
The course consists of 18 units, 9 of which are compulsory: Principalsof Anatomy and Physiology, Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness training and Programming, Fitness testing forSport and Exercise, Sports Nutrition, Psychology of Sports Performance,Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport and The Athletes Lifestyle.

Entry requirements

You will need to achieve 5 GCSE grades A*-C including English, Maths and Science, plus a Merit in BTEC Sport Level 2.


Your work will be produced in a variety of formats including essays, presentations, coaching and video evidence. You will be assessed formatively throughout the course and receive a final summative assessment of Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to a wide variety of interesting and exciting pathways including a sports coach, first aider, sports journalist, sports management, life guard and many more. It can also lead to university which could open careers such as a PE Teacher, Physiotherapist, leisure management, personal training and many more.
