Food, Drink and Hospitality BTEC Level 2 Diploma at South Downs College
The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a one year course combining theoretical and practical elements.
It is well suited to individuals who are interested in a future career in the exciting world of hospitality and catering.
This qualification will give you a good insight into a wide range of job roles to meet the needs of the modern hospitality and catering industry.
A wide variety of different units will form part of the course in order to give an insight into the career opportunities available in this industry.
This programme will allow you to experience both theoretical and practically related catering and hospitality subjects.
Topics and subjects will include:
- Introducing the hospitality industry
- Planning and running a hospitality event
- Delivering the customer experience
- Healthy lifestyles
- Cookery and food & drink service
- Marketing and promotional skills
As this programme is designed to enable you to develop your career choice, you should have a minimum of four GCSEs at grades D including English Language or Mathematics.
Alternatively a Merit or Distinction grade achieved at Level 1 or relevant experience from employment.
Two units are assessed externally, using a paper-based exam issued and marked by the awarding body.
All other units are internally assessed through assignments and practical assessments which are designed and marked by subject lecturers
Students who successfully complete the course can progress onto a range of different qualifications linked to the Hospitality and Catering Industry.
Students may wish to focus on a given area such as Craft Catering or a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Hospitality.
You will take part in a week’s structured work placement with hospitality and catering establishments in addition to working, on a rota basis, in our college kitchens, restaurant, cafe bar and shop.
