Italian A level at Sacred Heart of Mary Girls' School

Course description

The Edexcel Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced GCE in Italian enables students to:
  • Derive enjoyment and benefit from language learning;
  • Acquire knowledge, skills and understanding for practical use, further study and employment;
  • Communicate with speakers of the language;
  • Take their place in a multilingual global society.

Course content

Unit 2 draws upon four general topic areas:
  1. Youth culture and concerns
  2. Lifestyle: health and fitness
  3. The world around us: travel, tourism and environmental issues
  4. Education and employment

Entry requirements

Applicants to the Sixth Form need to have achieved a minimum of five FULL GCSEs at grade C or above as well as the entry requirements for the individual course:

It would normally be expected that Candidates would have an A at GCSE in Italian.

Assessment

Year 12 (AS level)
 
Unit 1: Spoken Expression and Response in Italian
  • 8-10 minute assessment in two sections
  • 30% of AS level; 15% of A level
Unit 2: Understanding and Written Response in Italian
  • Written examination 2 hours 30 minutes
  • 70% of AS level; 35% of A level
 
 
Year 13 (A2)
 
Unit 3: Understanding and Spoken Response in Italian
  • 11-13 minute assessment
  • 17.5% of A level
Unit 4: Research, Understanding and Written Response in Italian
  • Written examination 2 hours 30 minutes
  • 32.5% of A level
