Motorcycle Maintenance Level 1 at Preston's College

Course description

This course is an ideal introduction to maintaining and repairing motorcycles. You will study both theory and practical aspects covering the mechanical and electrical systems on motorcycles. You will learn how these different systems work and operate together to ensure the highest performance from the bikes. Through a range of projects you will develop the skills required to work in the industry. Plus to make sure you are employable after your course you are given the time to complete 36 hours of work experience so you can apply what you learn into a real work environment.

Course content

You will study motorcycle braking, suspension, engines and transmission systems as well as how to service and maintain a range of motorcycles and mopeds.

Entry requirements

A minimum of mainly grade E’s at GCSE with English and maths at grade D. You’ll also need to attend an interview.


You will complete projects to show your skills and this will be part of your assessment. You will also complete practical tasks in the workshop, written assignments, exams and a portfolio of evidence in our bespoke motorcycle workshop.

Future opportunities

You can progress to the Level 2 in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair or you may seek employment.
