Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeships at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai

Course description

This Foundation Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and competence requirements to work at semi-skilled or qualified operator level (Level 2) or craft or technician level (Level 3) as appropriate.

They allow the apprentice to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with essential and personal skills, required for their immediate job and future career.

Course content

The framework has been designed to address the skills gaps and shortages and address an ageing workforce, by attracting young people into the engineering industry and providing them with the skills, knowledge and experience which employers are seeking.

  • Engineering Maintenance
  • Materials Processing
  • Engineering Tool making
  • Installation and Commissioning
  • Civil Engineering

The technical training is provided in the college 1 day per week including time in practical workshops.

Entry requirements

All apprentices must have an employer who can cover the NVQ criteria.   Qualification requirement are 5 GCSEs at grade A* - C including Maths, English, Welsh.


An apprenticeship is assessed as follows:

  • Completion of a portfolio of evidence
  • Work based observations
  • Theory based tasks and tests

Future opportunities

You can progress from: 

Foundation Apprenticeship Level 2 to an Apprenticeship Level 3 and a Higher Apprenticeship Level 4.
