English Language at Calday Grange Grammar School
The course extends and develops the work done for GCSE. There is, however, a far greater emphasis on examining how language operates in a wide variety of different contexts, as well as developing a broad range of writing skills. Underlying principles of the course: To provide a relevant, interesting and contemporary course for post 16 students To encourage the acquisition of a broad range of skills useful in lifelong learning Skills and Knowledge developed through the course: Development of methods for working with spoken and written data; Gaining an understanding of the roles of purposes, audiences and contexts and the impact of these pressures upon language production and reception; Acquiring the ability to linguistic methods to analyse and investigate a variety of extracts taken from everyday sources We offer the AQA Specification B English Language Course The first AS unit covers the introductory aspects of the study of language, using a variety of texts for the basis of this study. In addition, it focuses on three specific social contexts: Language and Gender; Language and Power; Language and Technology.
