Physics AS and A2 at Broughton Hall High School
At Broughton Hall we continue to offer AQA Physics AS Level (7407) and AQA Physics A Level (7408).
This course will encourage candidates to develop:
• essential knowledge and understanding of the different areas of physics and how they relate to each other;
• and demonstrate a deep appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific methods;
• confidence and competence in a variety of practical, mathematical and problem-solving skills;
• their interest and enthusiasm for physics, including further studies and careers within physics.
Year 12 AS assessment at a glance: Both written papers are done at the end of year 12. There will be six required practicals to carry out in lesson time during the AS course. Some of the questions in the written papers will be based on these required practicals.
Year 13 A Level assessments at a glance: All three written papers are done at the end of year 13. There are twelve required practicals to carry out in lesson time over the duration of the A-level course. The first six are the same as the required practicals for AS. Again these practicals will feature in questions in the written exam papers.
The course is open to all students who have achieved at least a grade A in Maths GCSE and grade A and B in Science at GCSE.
A-level Physics is considered an academic course and as such, it is a facilitator subject. It is an A-level that is respected and highly thought of by all universities and colleges and therefore a good grade in A-level Physics will facilitate access to a very large range of different courses. The breadth of topics covered by A-level Physics and the mathematical and problem-solving skills engendered mean it is a highly adaptable.
You may wish to go into a career in the field of pure Physics or other related sciences or even into any of the varied forms of engineering for which Physics is essential. Physics is also a common A-level for students who choose courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Architecture, Law, Accountancy and for entry into the RAF and other Air Pilot Careers.
