Diploma in Caring for Children Level 1 at Stockton Riverside College

Course description

We believe there’s nothing more important than taking responsibility for a child’s well- being. Whether working as a teacher, nursery nurse or in the care industry it's vital you can offer a service that's caring, supportive, fun and stimulating. Our courses will show you how to develop all of these skills and apply them at work.

Course content

You will develop the skills needed to work with babies and young children through a combination of theory and practical sessions. Covering subjects including development, safeguarding, health and safety and organising activities, you will learn how children develop and pick up effective techniques for interacting with young children. You will also get the chance to apply what you have learnt on a work placement.

This qualification is delivered through a range of both taught and practical sessions, enabling learners to obtain the skills required to work with young children. Alongside this qualification learners will attend functional skills or GCSE Maths and English to support their further development in these areas.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of three GCSEs grade E or above, including English Language and Maths.


All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include a portfolio of evidence, written assignments, posters, presentations and professional discussion.

Future opportunities

After completing this course you could move on to a relevant Level 2 qualification.
