Public Services BTEC Level 1 Diploma at Exeter College

Course description

Public Services is an ideal full time course for those interested in a career in any of the uniformed services, eg: Army, Navy, RAF, Prison Service, Fire or Police.

You will be taught mainly in a group but you will also need to be motivated to work independently on some assignments. 

Course content

You will investigate your own wellbeing and improve you own fitness, take part in a variety of physical activities and develop your problem-solving skills. You will also gain knowledge in how to navigate cross country and take part in a variety of outdoor and adventurous activities including an expedition on Dartmoor. An important element of this course is to also improve your ability in English and maths.

Entry requirements

You should have at least four GCSEs at  Grade E or above, including maths and English. This is a vocational course so an interest in gaining a job in a related area is important.

Assessment

 For your Public Services course you will be assessed via assignments and practical tasks. You will need to sit tests for your Maths and English you must also take part in a week’s work experience.

Future opportunities

On successful completion you may be able to progress to a Level 2 course or an apprenticeship. Alternatively you may wish to seek suitable employment in one of the Armed or Civilian services.
