BTEC National Business Studies at Bishop Justus Church of England School

Course description

Business Studies is about learning how business works in the local, national and international environment. To make a business work the team behind its success must have management, accounting, marketing, communication and Information Technology skills. On the BTEC National Diploma in Business, you will study the workings of all the major areas in Business. The course consists of four compulsory units and eight specialist units. Compulsory Units are: * The Business Environment * Business Resources * Introduction to Marketing * Business Communication The specialist units will be selected by the teachers and will cover a range of topics including finance, marketing, human resources, health & safety as well as business law.

Entry requirements

Minimum requirements for 6th Form.


There are 12 units evenly split across the two years. The course teacher assesses all units through the delivery of student presentations, case studies and projects (coursework portfolios). Each unit will be graded pass, merit or distinction; the final grade is an aggregate of the unit grades achieved in the units. The qualification is equivalent to two A Levels.

Future opportunities

Progression to university degrees in Business Studies, Accounting, Marketing or other business related subjects or Higher Nationals in Business. Alternatively direct entry into employment within business in a variety of roles such as marketing, accounting, customer services, human resources and administration.
