IT - Hardware (Level 3) at Central College Nottingham

Course description

This is for you if wish to pursue a career in IT, with an emphasis on networking and system support. The course provides content and structures that will help students to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to work as professionals in the IT sector or to progress in to Higher Education / University. This course is equivalent to 2 A Levels.

Course content

  • Managing Networks
  • Computer Networks
  • Communication Technology
  • IT Technical Support
  • Organisational System Security
  • IT Troubleshooting and Repair
  • Maintaining Computer Systems
  • Networked Systems Security

Entry requirements

One of the following:

  • 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language and Maths*
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification including GCSE English Language and Maths* at grade A*-C

*Functional Skills may be accepted instead of GCSE English and/or Maths. Functional Skills Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE Grade D and Level 2 to GCSE Grade C.

Adults who are aged 19+ with relevant industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.


You will be assessed by your coursework and there are no examinations to sit.

To support your application we will ask you to bring in a school report.

You may need to purchase course text books (approximately £25 each). Students may have the opportunity to attend a residential visit with associated costs depending on destination.

It is recommended that you have paper, pens, calculator and a memory stick for transferring your work from home to College. You will be notified of any course books that may enhance your learning by your tutors. Entry criteria must be met.
