Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair & Media Make-Up Level 3 Diploma at West Cheshire College

Course description

This programme of study will be of interest to you if you have a passion for make-up and wish to have an exciting career in TV, film and make-up artistry.

The course is led by Catherine Bobby who is a specialist in Bridal hair and make-up in England and abroad and is qualified in Theatrical and Media Make-up, styling and dressing long hair. She has 16 years’ experience as a freelance make-up artist, has worked for Hello Magazine, County Bride Magazine, and featured in vogue. She has also worked on TV adverts as well as appearing on Sky TV and was filmed whilst working on the front cover for County Brides.

Course content

The Programme includes units covering:
-Health and safety
-Working in the industry
-Face and body art
-History of make-up and hair
-Photographic make-up colour and black and white
-Airbrush make-up
-Media make-up
-Style and dress hair
-Bald caps

Included in this programme we have industry guests from MAC, Illamasqua  and ArtDeco. There are related visits to GMEX Manchester, Clothes Show and World skills challenge. You will also take part in Industry workshops to help improve your skills.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including English and Maths or successful completion of the Level 2 Hair and Media Make Up


Each unit is assessed through exams and practical assessments.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course you could progress to University to specialise in an aspect of make-up such as prosthetics, fashion, wigs etc. or employment with make-up companies.
