Media Studies AS level at Shoeburyness High School

Course description

Students will analyse a wide range of contemporary media, whist underpinning their learning with relevant media theories. Insights into the media industry, audiences and producers will be gained.

Course content

What coursework do I have to do?

Three components include:

  • Preproduction – planning evidence for production piece (20)
  • Production – developed from the preproduction (40)
  • Report – on the production process – 1200-1600 words (40)

Entry requirements

Grade 5 at GCSE English Language is a must. Equivalents in ICT are also desirable/useful.


What’s in the exam?

MSI - Representations and Responses - 2½ hr written paper – three compulsory questions, one of which will be on an unseen audio/visual or print-based media (40, 30 and 30).

Future opportunities

Careers in journalism, marketing, media production, teaching, broadcasting, performing arts, advertising etc…

Many future employers want evidence that students are independent thinkers and are able to make informed judgements of the world around them, including the media.
