Dance UAL Level 3 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts at City College Brighton and Hove

Course description

This qualification is the 2nd year of a 2 year Level 3 Diploma which will give you the opportunity to gain the qualifications, skills and experience needed to progress a career in Dance.

The Street Jazz Dance course is an intensive, practical course that gives you access to leading practitioners in this exciting area of Dance. The practical emphasis of the course will give you the opportunity to develop your dance skills,creativity and physical fitness.

By the end of the 2nd year, you’ll have extended your knowledge of a wide range of modern, urban styles, be proficient in producing professional standard performances and have gained a UAL Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance).

Course content

The majority of the course will be delivered through practical dance workshops with leading dance practitioners. Units covered are:

  • ​Urban Dance
  • Jazz Dance
  • World Dance
  • Choreography
  • Dance Performance (a major mid-year public performance)
  • Performing to an Audience (a major end-of-year public performance)

As well as the major public performances there will be many opportunities to perform throughout the year.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C with a grade C in English. 
A proven commitment to dance: membership of after-school or weekend clubs or classes; involvement in amateur performances; GCSE Dance. You will take part in a practical dance workshop at interview.

Assessment

All Units are assessed through practical assignments that lead to public performance. These assignments will also contain written coursework that underpins the practical.

Financial information

All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2016. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.

Future opportunities

Most learners will progress on to Street Jazz Dance UAL Level 3 Diploma. The Award is the equivalent of 1 A-level and you can use it to help you progress onto University.
You will develop the skills necessary to audition at Dance School.

This Course emphasises practical dance skills as sort after by the industry.
