EXAMINATION BOARD EDEXCEL
This vocational course is an excellent preparation for students wishing to learn how to apply ICT skills to real-life situations and consider their effects. This course suits pupils who prefer to sit coursework to exams.
You will learn to select and use appropriate ICT tools and develop techniques to help you carry out investigations, capture and handle data, solve problems and make decisions. For some units of work you will be given business scenarios and you will learn how to determine the ICT needs and what effect ICT has. In other units you will investigate the impacts of ICT on the way we live and work.
5 A* - C at GCSE.
SPECIFICATION AND UNITS OF STUDY
Students’ work is evaluated throughout the course by continuous assessments.
AS level – BTEC Level 3 Certificate - the following 3 units will be studied.
• Unit 1 - Communication and employability skills for IT
• Unit 2 - Computer systems
• Unit 30 - Digital Graphics
A2 level – BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma – 3 further units required. Choice of optional units from:
• Databases, Spreadsheets, Desktop Publishing, Career planning, Digital imaging and photography, Digital Video and Audio, Music Technology, Animation, CAD / CAM, Web Authoring, Scripting and coding for websites
WHERE CAN THE COURSE LEAD?
Applied ICT qualifies for UCAS points so it could allow you to study for a degree or BTEC higher national diploma in related subjects such as Business Studies, Information Systems or Computer Studies, You could also go on to work-based training such as IT NVQs or vendor-specific qualifications.
The qualification would suit students who enjoy or would like to develop, a more independent style of learning. This style of learning is good preparation of university/college. This BTEC qualification compliments all other AS/A2 Levels including ICT, D&T, Drama, Psychology, English, Maths & Geography.
