Independent Living Entry Level 1 at Gateshead College

Course description

Following induction to college with a focus on study skills, you will embark on a programme of learning to develop your English and employability skills.

You will have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications to progress to a higher level which will help you to move on further either at work or at college.

Course content

You will carry out a programme which will be personalised to your long term goals, whether you are looking to study further in vocational areas, access higher education, or seek employment.

This will be discussed at the beginning of your programme and targets will be set which will support you to achieve this.

You will study maths, ICT and communication as part of your programme and these will be delivered through qualification based and project delivery.

You will have regular tutorials and progress review meetings which will review your targets.

You will carry out work skills activities, enrichment and you may have the opportunity to do a work placement. 

Entry requirements

You do not need any prior qualifications to take part in this course.

    • Gateshead College's Baltic Campus is located on the Gateshead quayside, just minutes from Newcastle City Centre and its attractions.

      The College is situated behind the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage Gateshead.

      The College has its own car park, but at busy times alternative parking is available nearby.

      There is a charge for parking. Students can apply for a permit to allow free parking during study time.
