Law AS/A2 Level at Balby Carr Community Academy

Course description

This Law course covers how laws are made and how the legal system works including the courts and the legal profession. Students will explore the concept of liability in criminal and civil areas.

The criminal law modules focus on offences against the person and offences against property including defences and proposals for law reform in the future. The course includes discussion of the relationship between law and morals and the legal enforcement of moral views as well as considering the importance of fault.

This course will develop knowledge and understanding of legal rules as well as developing an ability to analyse legal material, issues and situations and present a coherent and relevant argument.

Course content

Unit 1 - Law Making and The Legal System

25% A Level. 1hour 30 min exam

Unit 2 - The Concept of Liability

25% A Level 1hour 30 min exam

 

Unit 3 - Criminal Law (Offences Against the Person)

25% A Level 1hour 30 min exam

 

Unit 4 - Criminal Law (Offences Against Property) and Concepts of Law

25% A Level 2 hour exam

 

Entry requirements

It is expected that a student taking Law will have at least C grades in a range ofacademic subjects including Maths, English and Science.

Assessment

This is a 100% exam course, there is no coursework.
