Mathematics AS/A Level 3 at Astor College

Course description

This is a two year course.

Pure mathematics develops and extends the Mathematics studied at GCSE in Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry and Numerical methods. Statistics develops and extends the Statistics studied at GCSE and provides support for Science, Geography, Sociology and Psychology. Mathematics has always been a popular choice for students taking Science subjects. However, skills in numeracy and problem solving, together with the ability to think clearly and logically, are important attributes for everyone and the skills acquired in a Mathematics course are transferable to a wide variety of subjects. As a result Mathematics is now considered equally suitable for Arts or Humanities students. An AS Level in Mathematics will enable you to further your education at university.

Entry requirements

4 - 5 GCSEs at C or above in different subjects.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher education in areas of Mathematics, related areas such as Engineering, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer, Financial Adviser or Teacher. The course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the economic and financial sectors.
