Course description

This course suits students who would like to develop their skills and knowledge in this interesting trade. You will be supported by experienced and enthusiastic tutors who will help you achieve your goal.

Course content

This course consists of practical and theoretical study. Learners progress onto this course from Level 1. Learners will carry out safe working practices in construction, use information quantities and communicate with others, learn building methods and construction technology, prepare surfaces for decoration, apply paint systems by brush and roller, apply standard papers to walls and ceilings, apply water-borne paint systems using high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms.

Entry requirements


A minimum of 5 A*-D/ 9-3 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English


Assessment is via practical skills and the underpinning theoretical knowledge, including short tests, subject assignments, a health and safety test and an externally set theoretical knowledge test.

    • The College's Pagefield Centre is a purpose built facility to educate students, apprentices and tradespeople of the future.

      The turning and milling workshops will soon have new and upgraded equipment, which will include the latest technology in fabrication and welding.

      There will also be a plasma cutting bed and a new thermodynamic and fluid mechanic laboratory.

      To complement this state of the art equipment, students will have access to the latest finite element analysis software, CAD / CAM, hydraulics and pneumatics software, enabling them to experience learning in a high-spec environment.
