Become a joiner or site carpenter and get the theory and skills needed to start working on site. 

 

Course content

Bench joinery topics:

  • health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • understanding information, quantities and communication with others
  • construction technology
  • prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
  • set up and operate cutting and shaping machinery
  • produce setting out details for routine joinery products
  • mark out from setting out details for routine joinery products
  • manufacture routine joinery products.

Site carpentry topics:

  • health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • understanding information, quantities and communication with others
  • construction technology
  • prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
  • carry out first fixing operations
  • carry out maintenance to non-structural carpentry work.

Entry requirements

Bench Joinery/Site Carpentry CSKills Awards Level 1 Diploma (QCF), 2 GCSEs at grade D or above or relevant qualifications and/or experience or entry assessment test.

Assessment

Coursework, oral, practical and written exams and the successful completion of an on-line knowledge test

Future opportunities

Bench Joinery or Site Carpentry CSKills Awards Level 3 Diploma.
