FIlm Studies A Level at Teesdale School
Students follow the WJEC course. Two units are studied in each year of the two year course, one coursework based and the other examined.
AS studies involve an introductory module exploring the macro (narrative and genre) and micro (cinematography, mise-en-scene, lighting, dialogue, performance) elements of film analysis, moving onto a coursework piece on a film extract of the student’s choice.
Students are also asked to create a Step-Outline for their own film sequence and to complete a reflective analysis on this. The AS examination focuses on both British and American Film as well as the surrounding issues of marketing and promotion.
A2 studies involve the completion of two further coursework pieces, a documentary step outline and analysis and a research project on an area of study, again selected by the student. The examination covers World Cinema, Spectatorship and emotional response to popular film and a critical study of a set film.
