Course description

If you are serious about the sport and would like to develop an in-depth knowledge of the science behind how the body and mind function in sporting situations, then this is the course for you.

Component 1 - Psychological Factors Affecting Performance

Students will develop knowledge and understanding of body systems during exercise and recovery.

Component 2 - Physiological and Socio-Cultural Themes in PE

Students will gain a deeper understanding of underlying psychological factors that influence performance. Students will learn about sociological and contemporary factors that influence and affect physical activity and sport.

Component 3 - Performance within Physical Education

This component is in two parts covering performance in approved activity and analysis and evaluation of performance for improvement. 

You will be assessed in one chosen practical activity. You will also observe a live performance by another student and recommend an appropriate strategy to improve performance.

Further information

This is an ideal pathway for students to expand their knowledge of the many aspects of physical education. The whole curriculum time is theory based.  Students should be accessing their practical activities in their own time at least at local club level or higher.
