Course description

This programme fosters a critical awareness of contemporary social processes and change, covering the following topics:

  • Culture and Identity
  • Families and Households
  • Health
  • Work, Poverty and Welfare
  • Beliefs in Society
  • Global Development
  • The Media
  • Stratification and Differentiation

Entry requirements

5 A*–Cs at GCSE and a B in Geography; though relevant experience, extra-curricular interests, and motivation will be considered.


AS – 2 written examination papers

A2 – 2 written examination papers

Future opportunities

A Level Sociology can lead to numerous education and career pathways. Sociology can lead on to university study for a variety of humanities and society based subjects, giving the essential skills of time management and a broader understanding of how society lives and works together.

Sociology can also lead into the world of employment within many different career areas; for example, into the Public Services or business, giving understanding of social structure and how people communicate and interact with each other.
