Textiles *FEES PAYABLE* at Akeley Wood Senior School

Course description

Textile design involves creation, selection and manipulation across a variety of practices. Natural andmanufactured materials including fabrics, paper, wire, tissue, gauze, plastics are used to address aspectsof design in fashion and furnishing. The tools used within textile design are wide ranging, encompassing traditional hand crafts and computer aided technology. The Textiles specification encourages students to develop intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers and to enhance investigative, analytical, experimental, practical, technical and expressive skills. Students develop aesthetic understanding and critical judgement along with independence of mind in relation to developing their own ideas and refining their own intentions and personal outcomes. Within this specification students are required to work within one or more of the following disciplines: Constructed Textiles, Dyed Textiles, Printed Textiles, Fashion Textiles.

Entry requirements

Students should have achieved at least a grade B in GCSE Textiles or Art & Design and have an interest in and an enthusiasm and enjoyment of Textiles, Art, Craft and Design. Students will need to produce written analysis, appreciation and evaluation of their own work and the work of others.
