Computing at The Bishop of Winchester Academy

Course description

Computing is a qualification that can lead to a career within industries that are desperate to recruit graduates with Computing qualifications and skills.  There is a huge demand for people with computing skills that can be transferred to any field of business or industry worldwide.

Course content

Computing lessons will focus on programming, with mini projects and some game development to help students quickly become familiar with the routines of programming.  Students will experience external professionals from the IT world and have the chance to liaise with them. Students have access to the very latest software applications and hardware to try out the theory learned within lessons.

Entry requirements

Students should meet the standard 6th Form entry requirements.  It is preferred that students have achieved a minimum of a GCSE grade B or a Merit at Level 2 BTEC in this or a related subject.


AS: the course is assessed through two externally marked exam papers.

A2: the course is assessed through two externally marked exam papers and a Programming project that is internally assessed and externally moderated.

Future opportunities

The Computing qualification is recognised by both higher education establishments and industry. The course is suitable for students who have a keen interest in following a career in the wide field of IT and Computing and who wish to go directly into employment after completing the qualification, as well as those who wish to embark on a degree course at university.
