Mathematics A-Level at Egglescliffe School

Course description

The course is divided into an AS course during Year 12 and can be extended to an A2 course in Year 13. There will be examinations in June of each year.

Following this course will enable students to develop the skills of reasoning and communication by structuring logical and well organized solutions and mathematical arguments. They will analyse problems and select and apply a range of mathematical techniques to help overcome problems.

Course content

The course aims to give students the opportunity to develop an understanding of mathematical principles, underpinning the disciplines of Pure Mathematics, Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Mathematics.

Entry requirements

5+ A*-C grades in GCSEs or equivalent qualifications including English Language and Maths.

Subject Specific

We recommend a grade B in GCSE Maths. An interest in the subject and enjoyment of the challenges it presents are also essential.

Future opportunities

To universities all over the country, not only to study Maths, but also a wide variety of Science-based courses, Economics, Geography and vocational courses.
